I think you are talking about functional addicts. Controlling their usage so they can get through the day without getting sick. Often it can be someone you'd never expect to be using. Hard workers with good jobs, etc. It's absolutely not healthy though, and they are definitely physically dependent. It works until it doesnt anymore.
