the only change that would suffice to bring this country back on track is if the whole entire GOP crashed and burned and was no longer a political party anymore, and if far-right ideology would lose any and all official political representation. the Democrat party as it exists today would be considered the center-right party like it actually is, and a new Progressive party would take up the mantle of leftist ideological representation.

And I understand that. Completely. It's sort of like the silly post that asks if Trump switched to Democrat, would everyone vote for him? And my response to that would honestly be "so trump somehow gets ousted by the Republican party, loses all of his support, and somehow is more appealing to win the primaries for Democrats?" I'd probably vote for him by virtue that whatever Eldritch abomination placed on the Republican side would have arrived from the deepest layer of hell itself and might actually make me embrace religion again because clearly the antichrist has come.
