That's the thing, he wasn't "understanding of general dynamics and relations of things" smart, he was just brilliant in one specific way. The iMac was successful almost in spite of his designs as much as it was because of them: The motherboard has a bunch of entirely arbitrary design choices that could generously be described as a misguided attempt at feng shui. Needlessly complicated stuff that served no purpose, not even aesthetically, cause you couldn't actually see it unless you cracked the machine open, and it cost more time and money to achieve what would've been the same results, just sooner.
