I think part of it has to do with reflections.

Like, they're more interested in something that has light glinting off it than something that doesn't.

So tape is shinier than a Lego.
Most LEGO bricks are fairly glossy though. They are much more uniform in shape I guess, so maybe the reflections aren't as amusing or interesting.

OK this actually sounds like it could be truthful. When they sit there and chew on the tape it doesn't sound unlike the few times they've brought a bird they caught inside and eaten it bones and all.
