My b, I think I had a brain fart after reading other dudes post and scrolled back up and thought you'd glossed over it, too. That said, all the data collection is bad, and if it's being done intentionally by China, rather than for the usual advertising crap here, that's potentially worse. There are other issues, as well, but those two alone are deal breakers for me.

What I find especially funny about posts like this is that if China is banning the things shown on TikTok and showing their own version to themselves not only does that imply the things on TikTok are entirely of our own, people don't even realize that they're the ones praising China's propaganda to their citizens.

I mean, all the content that's created isn't necessarily from "us", but the content that we make is undeniably awful often, if not usually. Same w/ reality tv and idiot streamers doing stupid shit out in public, or especially in other countries.

My implication is that, regardless of China's insane restrictions, they know that much of this content is harmful, and wouldn't allow it to be viewed, but they'll gladly serve it to us (especially young people) in all you can eat format.
