I never played past gen 5 but almost every legendary encounter was a single shot static one that either you get it right then and there or you restart the whole game/trade for a new one (or reload a save). The roamers were generally the exception, but IIRC if you knocked them out then they were all gone for good. --- Look, I can name a few instances in MY life where I tried to reach mutual understanding and i can TELL you, always faster and easier to just kill em.
