Maybe, but it only ever takes one incident or one idiot in an apartment complex. Somebody did "something" in my last building that filled the whole building with smoke. No fire fortunately but a close enough call that I moved out within 3 months. They never even evicted the guy responsible. It's just not a good idea to reduce the number of ways to save your life if something like that happens. I would generally agree, but again. We have a housing crisis. Many other countries build homes without these regulations with no large negatives. We should evaluate if the concerns we had decades ago still exist.
