Honestly Jade's entire arc is very interesting once you get down to it. It's just that it takes a long time before you fully get into his story, so you're largely left with an asshole who may or may not be funny to you.

He is an actual sociopath... that doesn't like that he's a sociopath.

And his past is quite the doozy.

He accidentally killed his professor, probably one of the few people he remotely cared about, while trying to cast a spell. Tried to bring her back as a replica, but said replica was an unstable, amoral, homicidal monster. So imagine being a disturbed little kid, finding a way to clone living things, only for that to happen.
