This could prove to be a "Hitler tamed by prison" moment, but I think the GOP will calm down after Trump loses.

In American politics, the top priority is in maintaining the status quo (capitalism). That can't happen if one party goes off the rails and goes full fascist. Republicans will lose this election and, if they chose another individual like Trump, lose the next one as well. You're more likely to see another George W. Bush or Ronald Reagan, the soft-spoken "aw-shucks" personality who speaks American values while quietly depriving certain Americans of their rights than you are to get someone who is going to go to the podium, wave their fists in the air, and talk about Americans first to a crowd that would be chanting "Sieg Heil" in response if they were being honest about their goals.

In all honesty, quiet racism and anti-LGBTQ agendas can be more dangerous than open bigotry. Right now, everyone knows what they're fighting. If you get someone who talks about this great country of ours, our proud police forces, etc. and they casually mention drugs and illegal immigration as the only problems, that's a lot harder to fight than someone who openly courts a bunch of angry bigots with delusions that they're going to kick everyone else around once their chosen mouthpiece is elected.
