I think that comes from people who have no idea what they're talking about. Been to Tokyo twice, and living in Osaka now. My rent is barely 450 with a kitchen area, toilet, shower and tub, with a pretty good sized room. Something like this would have set me back 1200 in London.

Food is cheap as fuck, even convenience stores. Travel is cheap, although Osaka's trains are more expensive than Tokyo's for some reason. The only thing more expensive than London is fruit.

Edit: And yes salary would obviously be lower. But the gap between the salary and cost of living standard in Japan is much MUCH smaller in my experience than London.

In fairness, these were all people who had been there. I feel like their information may just have been out of date.

Also, youre comparing to London, which is expensive as fuck.
