some movies were created with the intention of being gross, offensive and problematic. People enjoyed them because they actually wanted to subject themselves to being horrified, offended and grossed out. To some people, being problematic was a positive selling point of the movie. Scary Movie, Date Movie, Epic Movie, American Pie and others - those had an audience despite being dumb and poorly rated.
