They come and go and take different forms.

You mention "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" but as an 80s kid, while that movie was popular for kind of edgy and your parents didn't want you to watch it (along with Porky's), teen movies like Teen Wolf, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, and Ferris Bueller's Day off were more popular with their PG ratings and more fantastical elements.

The 90s... didn't have a lot of theatrical teen comedies that I can remember even as a teen in the 90s... we hated most of them and they mostly missed. You had a bunch of total bombs with execs trying to shove garbage movies with bad actors like Pauly Shore down our throats.

The late 90s and 2000s had the Disney Channel and Nick etc... pumping out "teen movies" that were geared to teens and kids with much more family friendly themes and situations.
