I didnt make shit when I was in the military in the 90s but at the same time I didnt *have* to spend anything if I didnt want to. I could literally spend nothing in a month and have everything provided. I could live on the ship which I did for awhile and eat on the ship which I did frequently. And once you were of sufficient rank were even provided a housing allowance for living off the ship. So its a different when it comes to the military. What you make doesnt tell the entire story. With that being when I left the military I was WAY better off financially for basically doing the same job only I was home every night and if I worked extra I was paid overtime. *edit* while I was busy typing this out on my tablet you pointed this out yourself.
