Yeah when it comes to lack of sleep, every stereotype you ever heard about newborns is real.

With our daughter, my wife and I basically took turns. I had what we called "first shift" when I'd get off work at 4 and watch the baby until 12-1am while my wife slept. Then my wife would subsequently pick up "second shift" and stay up from 1am until maybe 6-7am while I slept and would go off to work and either a nanny/family member would pick things up from there.

Start sleep training early and never let your kid sleep with you in your bed. We started sleep training for my daughter at 9 months and after adjusting for about a week, she began to sleep on her own and my wife and I basically got our lives back.
With our first, we took shifts from 10 to 230 and 230 to 7, so whoever's shift it was when he woke up would take care of him. It worked pretty well.

With our second, we took the same shifts but he stayed wide awake from 10 to 230 and went to sleep immediately as soon as Mama got him at 230. Like, literally I would bring him in the bedroom, set him down and let him wake her up, and she would take him in the living room, put him in the swing and go to sleep.

So I got 3.5 hrs of sleep for months. He eventually started sleeping some at night, which was very welcome, but by the time I finally decided enough was enough, he started sleeping through the night, so it didn't matter, lol.
