New Yorkers will soon see national guardsmen on the subway. Governor Kathy Hochul spoke about the recent brazen attacks happening on New York's subway system. Over the weekend, a man was kicked on to the tracks at Penn Station. Hochul said three people saved that man's life. Attacks will not be "tolerated," she assured. "That's the New York I know. When someone is in trouble, total strangers come to the rescue with no hesitation. That's the true heart of New York," said Hochul.

She announced her plan Wednesday to "protect all New Yorkers." "Riding the subway, which should just simply be part of your everyday life is filled with stress and trepidation," said Hochul. "If you make a living as a transit worker that's compounded exponentially, that level of stress. Over 1,000 members of the New York State, MTA police and MTA National Guard will be conducting bag checks at the busiest transit stations. Top administration, state and local officials met with Hochul and came up with the "five-point plan" to address the public safety concern in the Big Apple. A total of 750 members of the New York National Guard and 250 personnel from the state police will make sure weapons are not brought in.
