Some huge holes in this.

If you are shopping for heavy shit, the cashier doesn't unload that shit and reload it for you either. And they certainly don't bag it as it would break the bag.

So my next question is, what are you classifying as, "heavy."

Heavy

Drinks, turkeys, litter bags, meat, 30-50 pound bags of dog food. Cement blocks, ply board, lumber, tools, (I have a home depot near me that is only self checkout now unless youre a contractor)

Heck sometimes they don't have that scanner gun thing or someone broke it.

I went to Kroger and had two buggies filled with groceries and they had nothing open but self checkout one of those really small ones, I asked the store manager if they could open a lane but they said the worker at the self checkout will help you if you need it. Of course they had wandered off so I had to ring it all up myself.

As to why it should create a discount is because they used to pay two or more people to do the job, but now expect me to do it for free, and there is no cut in groceries cost, so it is just pure profit to them. Also some people have disabilities that can make such tasks harder than for others.

That other stuff like gas and what not is just part of shopping, but it used to be you go to the store to get things you need, and there were employees there to help you and your money helped pay their salaries for their service, now you pay even more, no one is there to help, and your money just goes to the owner who is somewhere making cash angels.
