They show his origin, and the same chemical that gave him his powers seeps down and transforms the turtles. The original TMNT comic was basically a parody of Daredevil. Daredevil was trained by Stick... the turtles were trained by Splinter. Daredevil fights the Hand... the Turtles fight the Foot. And their ally Casey Jones is basically the Punisher, with sports equipment. Yeah I love this.
