Danganronpa is definitely packed with anime tropes but I don't really agree with the complaints about gameplay. I liked it a lot more than at least the first Ace Attorney from that standpoint. (haven't played later Ace Attorney games)

I guess on a fundamental level I view all of these games as "tolerating the gameplay to get to the story" and would noticeably prefer them as pure visual novels in all cases. I didn't find Danganronpa's gameplay any harder to tolerate than the others but maybe I would feel differently if I cared about the gameplay at all to begin with.
