Based off the traditional console life cycle, yes.

Based off the recent console life cycles, not quite.

Remember that the PS1 came out December 94 and was replaced March 2000. That's just over 5 years. The PS5 came out November 2020 and is just over 3 years.

PSWii60 era set a weird new standard by having a 8 year life cycle, which was almost matched by the PS4/Xbone at 7 years.

So its coming up on the middle-ish point based on recent precedence and is past the middle point based on historical precedence.

The real reason it feels... so weird is because it suffered from availability for basically 2 years and there have been no real next-gen experiences, in part due to the availability issues. Combine that with no large amount of (new) exclusives because of ever increasing development costs and it just makes the whole generation feel like a weird middle child that nobody needed
