I have no idea what you're trying to say. What other further left candidate? If Bernie disappeared/died before the primaries for 2016, I don't think anything would be different in the democratic party besides a huge maybe of Hillary winning. It's definitely the Overton window and not Bernie. After Obamacare every candidate was in favor of a public option or more.

No, attitudes against Hillary weren't nearly as intense until people on the left had a specific reason to resent her, which was that they weren't getting their socialist dreamscape leaning candidate. If it weren't him, I obviously have no idea who else it would have been, and it's very well possible 2016 could have gone to Democrats, thereby us never doing shit like leaving the Paris Climate Agreement. Could Warren have gotten that much into so many peoples' heads back in 2016? I really can't think of anyone on the far left in this country at that time that had more persuasive ability than Bernie. And unfortunately it went too far where it became a hatefest against people that weren't him.

So we agree becoming more progressive isn't a bad thing?

Edit: Elizabeth Warren might have won in 2020 being the sole progressive.

If all society was on board with becoming more progressive, that would be fucking great, and if all other countries trended the same way, we could actually make progress on issues that currently threaten our existence. But that's not the reality we have. You have to consider the practicality of winning elections and not alienating the slow-moving majority of the population.

As with Warren, yeah I don't care whether or not she could have won as that's a fight between progressive voters I never wanted to get in on. She doesn't come off inspiring to me personally, but if she or any Democratic candidate could become president and keep the presidency from going Republican, we'd all be better off.
