-A lot of the 3rd party DLC (safest 3rd party characters are probably Sonic, Bayonetta, Mega Man, Pac-Man, and maybe Ryu and Simon) -Some of the "flavor of the month" type characters (Greninja/Incineroar, non-Marth/Ike/Robin FE characters, etc.) I think the "essentials" basically boil down to something like... Mario Donkey Kong Link Samus/Zero-Suit Samus Yoshi Kirby Fox Pikachu Luigi Ness Captain Falcon Jigglypuff Peach Bowser Sheik/Zelda Falco Marth Ganondorf Mr. Game & Watch Meta Knight Pit Wario Ike Diddy Kong King Dedede Olimar Lucario R.O.B. Villager Rosalina Little Mac Robin Shulk Bowser Jr. Inkling Ridley K. Rool Sonic Mega Man Pac-Man Ryu Bayonetta That's not to say other vets wouldn't make it in, but I think that's a good list to build a roster off of. It's 42 characters (44 with Sheik and ZSS), and could probably be built up to something like 58 with newcomers and a few other non-essential vets (Palutena, Ice Climbers, etc.) while being in-check and not getting out of hand. --- a darkx alt ...
