I'm Iraqi-American and I'm sorry but this is textbook privilege. I was a high schooler during the Iraq War and was both repulsed and threatened by the jingoism. I knew the war would be a terrible idea, but I didn't have the courage to speak my mind because I didn't want the other kids who were swept up in it to label me a traitor or a terrorist.

I'm not hand-waving the threat of MAGA. I certainly recognize it as a real threat to the future of our country, but I find the idea of "longing" for those days because the online arguments were easier to be disconnected and honestly hurtful.
