"it gets good 20 hours in!" Not quite the same. 5e D&D hits a big power spike at level 5. That's when casters begin unlocking spells like Fireball. Getting there is definitely a feature, but it's supposed to be a relatively safe coast into that point as the game pretends to be hard/gritty/low-powered before that. On paper, anyway. It is definitely not a "20 hours in" kind of problem.
