Usually the issue with bread-type foods is that they are not very nutritious for many animals. This is why its not recommended to feed it to birds much, it lacks the nutrients they would get from their normal food.

Given the tendency for birds and squirrels to overlap with their foods to the point of using each others seed feeders, I would suspect that while not inherently unhealthy, that you should not make it a point to feed squirrels bread-type foods, unless it is a meatloaf or fruitcake or something else that is more about what is in the bread than the bread itself. And really you may be better off giving them birdseed or nuts.

But yeah, I doubt one face stuffing session of cake will harm it.
