It's the level of emotional trauma. Bullying is a coin flip. Minor bullying won't do too much usually, but major bullying can lead into depression, which can lead to murder and/or suicide. Being spanked tends to not cause any major problems, unless the spanking was barbaric(as in you beat your child with a pipe or something). But anyway, you seem to be making a common logical fallacy. That is, "If something worse can happen, then this other thing isn't a big deal". Yes there are worse things than sexual abuse, but that doesn't mean sexual abuse isn't a major thing.
doesn't make sense. similar to bullying or any other form of abuse, sexual abuse has a range - one that's much larger than just about any other. you can't say "well yes there are levels to these things however this one's major!" because it's entirely possible that it was less than what you just okay'd. blanketing it under a single category doesn't work if you're also willing to break others off (which, you should).
