What doesn't sit well with me is this notion of a sequel "fixing" everything that was wrong with the original. This isn't a patch or a remake, it doesn't really "get" to fix what was wrong with XIII and its supposed to be a standalone game set in the universe of XIII. Some of the stuff I've heard about it makes me worry that this is the same game with a different story and a bunch of fixes aimed at the complaints. Does it actually feel like a fresh experience in the same way X-2 did?
I had the same fears. I was afraid the game would basically be Square looking at a checklist of complaints about FFXIII and shallowly "fixing" them in an attempt to make a decent game. The overall product does sort of feel like that, but the game still manages to compel you keep playing in a way that the older FFs did (and XIII never seemed capable of accomplishing). It's still got a few flaws, but I really liked it overall.
