Yeah, but the economy is always going to be intermittently s***ty, and the next time the economy is bad the problem will arise again. The problem is simple enough that to solve in legislation without a vague law open to tons of unintended side effects: "Companies may not request that job applicants or employees give them passwords to any personal accounts." I don't see any reason not to do that.
My view, and this is where 2 reasonable people can definitely disagree, is that piling on the minor legislations like this makes it harder to get out of the economic slump. It's not only unnecessary, but harmful.
