I honestly don't get complaints about this. I prefer it hugely over holding a button to run. And I think it works well for CotM's mechanics and physics, which are designed around two movement speeds.
Also, no one complains about double-tap to run in Kirby games. >_>
because it works well in Kirby
it does not work well in Castlevania
