Thoughts on the Movie:

Warning SPOILERS for THG movie.

Honestly, I thought the movie was fantastic. I think it was everything you could hope for in a movie adaptation of a book you like. I didn’t realize just how huge THG was, even in these past few weeks reading it. I’m happy they allowed for it to be so long (about 2 hours 20 minutes) because they were able to keep in everything that mattered.
Hilariously, every single time Katniss told a character they were going to be alright, they were most certainly not alright. I found it seriously funny. Prim? Don’t worry, everything’s going to be alright. BAM Reaping’d. Rue? Don’t worry, our plan will work, everything will be alright. BAM spear’d. There were other instances, but I can’t remember them off hand. It was just funny because it seemed like Katniss would say the exact same line just before something terrible happened to the other character.

Some minor gripes:
-District 11 didn’t send Katniss bread. I found that to maybe be the most powerful moment in the entire book, so I was a little disappointed that detail didn’t make it into the movie.
-Two of Katniss’ girlfriends are inexplicably nowhere to be found – Madge and Avox girl. Admittedly some things had to be cut, and I actually sort of prefer the new origin of the mockingjay pin, so I understand them tossing these guys.
-What blood/gore there was was done well, but I could have used a little more. I’d have liked Glimmer to be a little grosser, I’d have liked Katniss’ burns to have been a little more severe, same for Peeta’s leg. It was hard to kind of feel like they were really in peril. Everything just a liiiiiittle more would have been ideal. Still, I understand the need to keep the PG13 rating.
-Clove’s big scene with Katniss was less hot and more… creepy. I thought the actress did a good job, just in a different way than it was done in the book.
-This is super minor, but Foxface’s nickname. Peeta just randomly says it near the end one time and that’s all we hear of it the entire movie. Like, why would he even call her that? Would have made more sense to me if Katniss would have at least said it, then Peeta would be like who? And she’d just say oh, that’s a nickname I gave to the girl from District 5. Would have taken like two seconds. I’m sure no one else really cares, but Peeta saying it in the movie just didn’t flow well for me. He could have even said something like “that fox-faced girl,” and it would have been better. Does the non-book audience even know who Foxface is? How could they? But like I said, incredibly small detail and it doesn’t really matter since she’s dead lol.
-If it were me I’d have gone for a nice round 2 hours and 30 minutes and expanded the ending just a tad. At least a scene where Katniss and Peeta discuss how the whole love thing was kind of an act. This is the one flaw in the movie for me. There’s no way the audience that hasn’t read the book knows that Katniss is acting with Peeta. They’re not putting the love triangle thing front and center (thank God) but they’re not really explaining it properly either.
