I've never seen clutter as a problem. I've never suddenly become confused as to what's going on just because people are breaking up their saves. Also, I've never noticed a difference in the speed of my updates because of broken saves, but that argument maybe isn't the best because I'm not the one doing updates most of the time.
The only other issue is a problem left with the users themselves in making sure their times are good. It gives them slightly more to keep track of, but in my experience it's handled well.
I still think it's kind of lazy to outright ban it instead of dealing with it and allowing users to have an extra tactic at their disposal. I'll respect it whenever it is banned, but I'll think it's silly.
