The sexualization element was definitely present, it just wasn't her defining character trait.... EDIT: in fact, notice how the Super Metroid Samus has a sixpack, and generally looks like a buff biker chick. By the time Fusion came around they had changed their mind on the whole "giving muscles to the space warrior" thing.
