For plot? I happily will.
Metroid, Metroid 2, Super Metroid had a closed plot-arc. They weren't designed to have sequels or prequels or extra stuff added on. it was a pretty tight well-defined plot. (And frankly pretty well-written, particularly the Metroid II instruction manual).
Every plot they tried to add in the modern games felt decidedly tacked-on and a little bit silly.
For gameplay--gameplay of the modern games is fine--no real complaints there.
So you haven't actually played the Primes then, which are also a closed plot arc, only tangentially related to the first three. Not adding to it at all.
You could sort of say this about Fusion, but if nothing else Other M at least made its connection to the first three incredibly cohesive.
