Just beat the challenge level in two tries. The not evolving charmander was super-obvious, mainly because the second level 26 charmanders showed you knew there had to be SOME catch.
Also, had no idea you could catch the golums. I killed them, and just downed the onyx's with more geodudes, ended up just having my charmeleons kill off the vileplumes and winning with two candies left.
