Agnosticism is as close to "non-religion" as you can get, because there is no explicit belief or disbelief in any higher power, or other traditionally religious claims. It is pretty much the "whatever, dude" of religious discussion. Agnosticism is the complete absence of faith, to the point it's more of a stance than a theism.
Atheism is all about how a deity cannot exist and anyone who believes so is a pitiable soul wasting their life believing in giant bearded wizards or some crap. It's far more venomous towards religious groups because they don't believe what they believe and they feel constantly oppressed by the religious imagery being shoved down their throats.
