I would imagine if Melee had never existed, or had at least had physics closer to the other two, you wouldn't have said that. The "by today's standards" there is the damning part. That's why I don't like to compare games, even the similar ones. 64 is still fun to me. Perhaps I had more fun with the others, but it's not suddenly a bad game. I can pick it up and still have a blast.
And no, I'm not saying non-floaty is terrible, but Melee's physics were my least favourite of the three if I was forced to compare them. Melee is a great game. I see it as significantly worse than Brawl but I can still have fun with it. It doesn't stop being a great game because something better exists.
