So the closest thing I've had to this situation is teaching a class of smart high school kids linux and LaTeX. The only thing I can think of that may be applicable is that you're probably going to be getting a few people asking the same basic questions (or failing the same basic stuff) over and over again. Look at this as inevitable, and don't get too upset that they're not "getting it."
