you can take an even more recent example - heel Punk. Nexus. these guys had some pretty solid sales (especially Nexus) and while that isn't the same demographically, you'd get some reaction out of it that'd be definitely interesting which should span across all of 'em.
and of course the guy who fights heel cena will get shot to the moon with merch and ratings alike.
