2. Kaiji 2
Spring

Literally the best spring anime. I only watched this once it was over but man it was awesome. I liked S1 a lot too but this was a step above it. It's more intense than before as Kaiji cries and fails his way through it all. Kaiji is just such a ****ing great character. I really put him on the same tier as Kamina and some others for being inspirational. Of course, it's done in a totally different way since he's basically a huge loser. But more importantly, even his life outside of all the danger and gambling is totally terrible. The fact that he's willing to fight so hard to keep it makes me feel like crying manly tears. The last few episodes make me really happy despite some of the circumstances being pretty bad. The scene where Kaiji's efforts finally, FINALLY pay off is one of the greatest things I've ever seen. Not to mention the scenes following it. And my god, the premise for the third series is amazing. I hope this gets a season three.

1. Usagi Drop
Summer

Literally the best anime of the year. I'm not going to delve into my feelings on the remainder of the series but part one stands as my favorite slice of life series of ALL TIME. It combines the serious stuff with comedy really well and it never feels too serious or anything. I loved it from the start since Daikichi is established as a bro right away and Rin is adorable. I have a thing for anything about parenting and this does it so well. Daikichi getting accustomed to it, struggling with it, and eventually feeling rewarded by it. It is just the greatest. The emotional scenes are pretty scarce but done really well. Two really stick out in my mind and if you liked the series, you probably know what I'm talking about. I like the plot important parts more but I love the straight slice of life parts too. I read the manga first and I can't really decide if I like the anime or part one of the manga more. The manga's style is pretty minimalistic so it definitely benefited from being adapted. The art and music are really good. It's also pretty cool how they got an actual kid to voice Rin and she did a good job. Just imagine if Rie Kugimiya had voiced her oh god. To sum it all up, okay seriously what the **** is that manga ending. I'm literally praying the anime never gets a season two.
