5. Hourou Musuko
Winter

Literally the best winter anime. It's always nice seeing something present a more serious topic and do it candidly. I didn't watch this until recently since it sounded lame that they skipped the first part of the manga. It is pretty lame but it's still awesome. The characters felt realistic and they did really well with making them effectual. The show had a good chill atmosphere and emotional tone. Plus Saorin is a badass. The show does feel a bit weird since you can tell it's starting in the middle of the series but whatever. I'm sure the manga is much better unless they go for a random Shuuichi x nee-san ending

4. Chihayafuru
Fall

Literally the best fall anime. This is only like halfway over but I'm basically in love with it. The only reason it's not higher is because it's unfinished and who knows if it'll stay this good. I'm pretty sure it will since it is pretty much amazing. It just makes me happy. It's all about Chihaya and co. following their dreams of playing children's card games which is obviously a message I can get behind. The tone of the show is good in that it never feels at sappy or melodramatic but still emotionally driven. Also, the music is great. This is basically the highest compliment I can give an anime since I don't care about 95% of soundtracks.

3. Ano Hana
Spring

Spring was a weird season for me. It was the first season I was dropping bad series like moggthegob's mom dropping him on his head when he was a baby. It was a really good feeling and for the first time in awhile, I was really loving anime again. Anyway, Ano Hana was my favorite show I watched airing this season. Admittedly, it had some pretty big problems. Firstly, a good cast usually goes hand in hand with me liking a series a lot. Strangely, I never particularly cared about anyone much in this. The biggest problem was the writing. The main problem of the series literally could have been solved as soon as everyone got back together if Jinta and Menma weren't stupid. Despite that glaring flaw, I really loved this. I think since it did so well on an emotional level, I can look past dumb minor flaws like objectively bad writing. The nostalgic feeling of it was excellent and I was more absorbed in it than I have been any other airing anime. I said I didn't really care about any character but I still wanted to see them move on and all. If anyone who watched this remembers, I was literally worried about the direction the ending was going. Thankfully, the ending was as good as I could hope for.
