This whole "GameFAQs Gold" fad started way back in 2008 when a small group of users were invited to a beta to test out "GameFAQs Answers". These users would see something like this when they checked out GameFAQs Answers:
User Name: -LusterSoldier-
Answers Level: Gold
Answers Privileges: 25 open questions allowed, can give 50 answers per day
As a result of that, some users were joking about how they have a GameFAQs Gold account and that's how the "GameFAQs Gold" fad started out.
