Also yay Samus's rivalry finishes ahead of X's in the stats. So much for rivalry factor I guess.
Samus has a damn good rivalry
Ridley KILLED HER PARENTS

Gee, I've been trying to get that across that Samus has a "damn good rivalry" (well I haven't really been trying hard, but still!). A few weeks ago I was thinking about the main goals that Bowser, Dr. Robotnik, and Ridley (and Ganondorf, but I really don't want to discuss him) have, and...

Bowser - Kidnap Peach to eventually destroy the Mushroom Kingdom.
Dr. Robotnik - Cover the world with machinery and eliminate all wilderness.
Ridley - "Finish what he started" - aka kill Samus.

In Bowser's and Robotnik's cases, the villain is heading for world conquest, and the hero simply stands in their way. Ridley, like Bowser and Robotnik, is also the leader of an "army", but he's seen with his "troops" far less frequently than Bowser and Robotnik are, and usually whenever he appears, he's trying to impede on Samus's progress at the very least, if not outright kill her. I guess their encounter at Ceres Space Station at the beginning of Super Metroid could throw a monkey wrench into this train of thought...or maybe it doesn't! Ridley has his hands full with stealing a baby metroid, and plus why else would he camouflage himself aside from pulling off a surprise attack?

The bottom line is that Ridley is probably more concerned with killing Samus than with world domination, and Samus obviously knows it.
