I wasn't trying to imply that she actually did it a lot more than just that I didn't like it so much when she did. The instance you're talking about would definitely be understandable as well. My reasons for being turned off at the time though will be covered in the last paragraph.

I also used brooding as a bit more of a general term than it is (partly because I thought it was punny, brooding, brood, mother grub) since it also covered some of her more angsty lines in later conversations with Rose, stuff with Eridan, and the darker side of Kanaya in general in addition to her one actual "broody" consolation with the grubsprite. The lighter side (no pun intended this time) of Kanaya was the one that I found more interesting. Her early encounters with "rose" and Rose were also very entertaining. Flighty broads and their snarky horse****-ometer was the kind of development that I liked from Kanaya. I thought I got more out of her character whenever she was giving something instead of those few instances where she would close in on herself or let her temper get the better of her.

In spite of his awkwardness, confidence issues, and some forced issues that would understandably put him into that state, Tavros isn't really too prone to brooding either unless it's actually (at least somewhat) appropriate. Most of the time, he's just a very awkward person. Still, when he was brooding, it feels more like seeing the thoughts of (and yes, I know it's exactly what he is) an awkward 13 year old boy and it only very occasionally does something for the story. I understand that's a lot of the premise of homestuck considering the age of the characters and you're bound to run into situations that outline that very clearly, but it just seems out of place at times when you consider the maturity of the characters as a whole in spite of the limited sweeps/years they've been around.

In all of the complicated shenanigans going on in Homestuck and for the minimal earlier significance of those troll characters (keeping in mind that I didn't know they would end up as some of the more important trolls until more recently), getting too deep into the emotions of the characters that seemed like sideliners wasn't as appealing to me when there were still so many unanswered questions that I was hoping would be covered in the way of plot progression. Sometimes I'd be fooled and later find out that those seemingly time-wasting moments were actually important to the plot in some way, but in others it just wasn't too involving, as if AH was just trying to put in a little bit of filler to keep us satisfied and kill time until he finishes the next flash.
