I have that problem too, plum. I just let myself get zoned too much. It's why I need to play a champ like Nid top, where I can actively zone them out. But as melee (Irelia >_>) I just seem to let myself be zoned and then I don't have the farm I need mid-game, which means I usually let my team down late-game.
