I like it this way. We do three ten week sessions so we end the week before Christmas, then our next break is Spring break and then there's the summer quarter. Don't most people doing semester have to come back to the same classes after a break? That would suck.
Here, the first semester is August through Christmas/winter break, then the second semester is when you return in January through like, the second week of May. So spring break falls within that second semester, but winter break is between the two.
