Yeah, someone tried to do this same contest a few months back (and completely didn't follow through) and the amount of nominations recieved was just ridiculous. 256 is definitely the way to go.
Huh, really? Dang, I thought this was an original idea. :P
I can't rule out 256 or anything... but if I were to do that, I have a feeling there'd be a ton of obscure characters in the bracket, and people would lose interest in the contest as a result. But it might be possible to pull it off if these threads get a consistent stream of nominations for the next few days.
