But really, I've said before Pinkie needed development as a character, and this is the episode pinkie needed as a character. It wasn't the "pinkie will be proven wrong." type of episode, this episode showed that pinkie has weaknesses too. She has problems, and isn't just some wacky monkey cheese random character.I'm not gonna try to psychoanalyze a cartoon pony, but her behavior actually seems completely consistent with someone growing up as an unhappy and lonely child (fine, filly) and carrying around the unhappy memories with them into adulthood. Look at how frantically she tries to make everyone around her happy, how she always tries to surround herself with friends and laughter and proof that people like her. At the beginning of the ep, she just can't stop asking people if they're having fun.

And then, when there's the slightest hint of rejection, the merest suggestion that maybe she's going to be friendless again, and she deflates like a... well, balloon, and turns, again, into the damaged and emotionally neglected little Diane. And what's the first thing she does? Makes up a bunch of imaginary friends for herself. And call me crazy, but considering one of her friends is a pile of rocks, I get the feeling this isn't the first time she's met these "friends." I think they helped her cope with her miserable childhood.

Woah that sure was a lot of words about a magical pink pony
