It's just not satisfying or really fun to fight anything. That's all there is to it, really.
I dunno. The concept of "timed hits" makes the battle system much more satisfying and engaging, especially when you do things like Super Jump and try to see how many you can get in a row.
More RPGs should use timed hits, honestly. It's an awesome concept.
Doesn't Final Fantasy VIII also have timed hits?
