Male/female equality is great and all, but there's a difference when they're children. Males can typically take a different emotional road when it comes to sex. Females tend to connect emotionally and even if they say they understand the concept of "sex just for fun" the truth is they REALLY don't. Emotionally you can really mess up a 14 year old girl by banging her early, while a 14 male wouldn't put as much stock in the relationship aspect.
Replace 14 with 18 and this still holds true
But banging 18 year olds is legal
