The game got pretty difficult in the end. The final three "league" battles together all hit for a lot of damage, which is not so easily healed. My party is Uzer, Luis, Yazzy and Zach, so maybe my healing capabilities aren't the greatest since they're restricted to Royal Cure and Iaso (Uzer and Zach can heal too, but they serve as my DPS). Maybe if I'd trained Amana it would've been better, I dunno. Levels range from 47-51.
My pet peeve is that enemies take really long to die. During the big fights I prove that I can stand up to them, then spend 10 more minutes repeating the normal order of attacks (Attack, Royal Cure, Iaso, Attack) until they die.
MP costs are a bit on the high side IMO. I got several MP-halving equips in the end, including the King's Robe, but otherwise Yazzy would've been near useless. Aside from exceptions like Gadswell's quest, I found myself using only three summons: Iaso, Grand Healer and Sir Chris. Iaso speaks for itself, Grand Healer is the most potent heal in the game if two or more guys are dead and Sir Chris gimps several large enemies with his paralyzing, including other bosses like SpikeDragon. I obtained the 13th summon, but its MP cost is higher than Solar Shadow yet its damage is lower. Uzer and Luis get Avalanche and Tornado, which should be useful but aren't. I kept Luis around for healing and his high Agility, while Zach is tanky as hell and hits for only slightly less than Uzer with Ayvuir.
What I find the worst are the bosses that can heal. These include Holy Angel, Grand Healer, Solar Shadow and the 13th summon. Healing for 4000 HP average when my damage per round 20 levels and 16 ultimate weapons later rounds out at about 1600 is pretty painful. I had to stall them out of MP, at which point I won since they aren't programmed to not spend MP.
I do love all the references though, even if I'm not in it. My favourite was Justin Crossing the bridge troll, which I found pretty funny and unexpected. And I like JC.
The other things are small things. Masamune's location isn't told and it's not in the FAQ, so I have little hope of finding the Kusanagi. Amber Stones don't seem to drop from Amber Dragons even after fighting like 30 of them, so I don't have the Odin gear yet. And I still haven't recruited Zen, wherever he is. Little things.
That said, I'm dedicated to beating this game, which is why I came so far in the first place. I also want to fill in the FAQ when I'm done. But there's just that final boss left. Omega Flare is ouch.
