Actually, it's quite the opposite.

You can play original DS games in 1:1 mode on the 3DS, and this eliminates the blur caused by the resolution upscaling in fullscreen mode. The problem is, this puts a border around the screen, which shrinks the viewable area to a very small size. But, on the 3DS XL's larger screens, if you use 1:1 mode, the viewable area is actually a tiny bit BIGGER than the normal DSi's screen.

tl;dr - playing an original DS game on a 3DS XL will look almost exactly the same as playing it on a DSi.




Best news ever. The two reasons I skipped out on the original model were the battery life and DS games looking crappy. so it looks like this could be a day 1 purchase for me.
